Issues getting a BPD Diagnosis
Because there is no easy method to diagnose Borderline Personality Disorder, many therapist may not recognize BPD or are reluctant to make the diagnosis even in the presence of symptoms. One reason is that BPD is a complex syndrome with symptoms that overlap with other conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, people with BPD are often stigmatized which can deter individuals from seeking help or make clinicians hesitant to diagnose their BPD.
