Medications

There is no single medication specifically developed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. However, there are other medications prescribed to treat other conditions that can occur along with BPD such as depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and anger. These medications may include antidepressants, antipsychotics and antiepileptic drugs. Although they are not a cure for BPD, these other medications may enhance the results of psychotherapy.

Because some of these medicines can cause serious side effects only a knowledgeable psychiatrist should prescribe medication to a person with BPD, and then closely monitor any changes in the person’s health.
