Mentalization Based Treatment
Mentalization Based Treatment has been proven to be beneficial in the management of Borderline Personality Disorder. Mentalization refers to the ability to understand one's own thoughts and feelings, as well as the thoughts and feelings of other people.
Since people with BPD can find it difficult to recognize the impact of their behaviors, MBT encourages them to understand how their state of mind affects their own behavior, as well as the behavior of others. MBT aims to help people by improving interpersonal and relationship skills while reducing self-destructive behaviors. If a person can’t mentalize and makes inaccurate assumptions about other people’s motives and behavior, anyclose relationships may seem untrustworthy and become a source of stress rather than support.
